Coco – The Dromedary Camel, has found her temporary home at the Departures terminal of the Broome Airport before reaching her final destination at the new Spinifex Brewing Co Cable Beach Alehouse, once construction is completed in 2023.

She stands at 2.5 metres tall and weighs over 650kg, with the entire design and build process taking more than three months. Coco has been constructed from a variety of recycled metals and raw materials, sourced from the Wheatbelt and other parts of Western Australia. The artist, Jordan Sprigg conceptualised Coco – The Dromedary Camel, during a holiday to Broome in 2020.

“I remember thinking during my trip to Broome, how beautiful the afternoon shadows of the camels on Cable Beach were. I felt inspired to recreate that same experience through Coco” – Jordan Sprigg, Artist
Coco is a symbol that commemorates the contribution of Abdul Latif Casley (Born 14th June1943 – Passed away 20th June 2021) to the town of Broome.

Abdul walked his family and eights camels from Katherine in the Northern Territory to Broome in 1981. Two years later in 1983, he commenced the first camel ride at sunset, on the iconic Cable Beach.

“I am just happy that my artwork can be enjoyed by the locals and tourists of Broome, that’s the main aim of my art is to just surprise and delight people. I always find that people really get a kick out of finding everyday recycled items like forks and spanners as part of my pieces” – Jordan Sprigg, Artist

Spinifex Brewing Co CEO Adam Barnard, comments on the initiative:

“Coco will be installed at the Spinifex Brewing Co Cable Beach Alehouse and is no doubt destined to become a must-have photo opportunity for tourists as they seek to share highlights of their visit to our part of Australia’s spectacular Kimberley region.”

Spinifex Brewing Co want to sincerely thank the Broome Airport for this collaboration. Coco is sure to captivate tourists and locals alike as they touchdown in beautiful Broome.
